The Newscaster is the monthly news letter for the Indianhead Fly Fishers. The current President's message will be here and the Newscaster archives will follow.
‘Bout a week ago, Murray reservoir was windy, but gave us all some lovely rainbows; before the approaching storm sent us scurrying for the trucks.
With my wife and some grandkids, I headed for a favorite out of state spot to join family, until vehicle problems turned us around. So my son sent photos to make me jealous.
While they were into the trout, another son and I took kids, and went looking more locally, for a new place to camp and fish. We found a nice stream, but not a old-guy-friendly way to get to it.
I heard that subsequent group trips worked out well, despite a dysfunctional alternator. And, wonder of wonders, no wind at Malheur reservoir. Perhaps someone will post photos.
I’m also looking for photos from the Weiser Community Pond Clean -Up: reports of a good turnout have arrived, with lots accomplished. Yesterday’s local newspaper has a front page photo of Mark L. hard at work, clearing cattails. I find it refreshing that a community will show up to do that which needs to be done.
Tomorrow, 6/8/2024, is Idaho’s free fishing day—Tony has spearheaded plans to man a club informational booth, with a casting demo/learning opportunity for folks who come to the Weiser pond. The planned hours are 9:00 am to noon, but who knows? — the fishing may be so good, everyone hangs around longer. I plan to be there, and I hope you can join us, and help recruit some new members.
Our June board and informal membership meeting are planned for next Tuesday at Idaho Pizza; six and seven pm respectively.
Looking ahead, the Weiser Fiddle Festival is coming up. Tony has been collaborating with the Bee Tree School folks, and tentative plans for a flytying demo booth and casting demos are in the works: probably on the Wednesday and Friday. We need volunteers to man those, especially someone, preferably without a Y chromosome, to do a Ladies-Only session.
Our August membership meeting consists of the annual picnic/potluck at Memorial Park, in the covered pavilion. This year, it falls on the 13th, unless of course, the weather changes our minds, as it did last year.
Tony and Mark L. have been discussing plans and curriculum for flytying class, in conjunction with the Bee Tree School. Mark is working on grant funding to help support it. It may involve a series of weekly sessions, so hopefully, we can develop more community involvement.
I wish you all heath, and bent rods (because of living, actively moving, creatures!)
Bruce Parsons
