The Newscaster is the monthly news letter for the Indianhead Fly Fishers. The current President's message will be here and the Newscaster archives will follow.
I like this weather ! (even if I’m sort of looking over the proverbial shoulder for the next freeze)
Our monthly meeting was well attended : Ray Perkins filled us in on the types of tailwater fisheries available in the two-state area, and discussed differences in the kinds of fishing available. We talked briefly about traditional soft hackle flies, and some fishing techniques . Ray will be showing us his method of tying the soft-hackle pheasant-tail tomorrow evening. He will be starting around 7:00 pm, at the Weiser Library. If you are a new tyer, show up at 6:00 pm, and there will be folks ready to get you started.
If you get the opportunity, congratulate Tony Buthman on his appointment as Vice President—he has been doing the work, so he might as well carry the title. He is working on several ways to extend our club’s outreach, so if you have some ideas regarding that goal, I expect he is the one to approach. We do have posters and business cards available for you all to use in recruiting.
Have fun, stay safe (the flows are high). Hope to see you all soon, preferably securely connected to an active fish.
Check the calendar. The IHFF board meeting has been moved to 6pm on the second Tuesday of the month. The board meeting was previously held the first Tuesday of the month. The board meeting will precede the membership meeting at 7pm. All are welcome to attend the board meeting. Get involved!
Come and try a beginner's fly tying session before the regular scheduled fly tying session. The beginning session will start at 6pm an hour before the monthly fly tying session. This will give a new fly tier some basic skills and help them get ready for the regular scheduled fly tying session at 7pm
Ray will be leading the fly tying group in a pheasant tail soft hackle pattern here
Happy March
