The Newscaster from March 2023
Here it is again: hourly weather changes with confusion. It’s nice to have a place to take a kid when a break presents . . . .
. . . . and something with which to experiment when the wind is contrary.
Fishing hardwater with flies works too, it's just hard to cast into the 8" hole accurately.
I hope you have been checking the website frequently for current news and events. The calendar gives you dates and locations.
This next week, at the Tuesday members meeting, we anticipate an interesting presentation regarding the Skwala stonefly, it’s biology, behavior, and resulting fishing opportunites, courtesy of Boise Valley Fly Fishers and Troy Pearse. He says the nymphs are probably migrating on the Owyhee as I write this, and the adults will be pulling fish out of lethargy soon, but I would be unlikely to see either because I would be looking in all the wrong places. So if you are as naive as I once was, come learn a better way. The club library will be available, and I heard a rumor that new books have been added. If you are a tier (tyer?), bring some of your work the stick into the foam fish, to supply the box which will be raffled away in May, The following Tuesday, Ray Perkins will show us how to tie an effective adult Skwala pattern.
In March the planned meeting subject is boating safety and regulations, presented by our local law enforcement folks.
Look ahead for a “Community Action Event” (clean up trash left by thoughtless idiots); Owyhee River, early April. We will probably clean and repair, in cooperation with other local groups, the Weiser Community Pond, around the first weekend in June. Details to follow.
The Idaho Conservation Officers Assoc. is again hosting, in early August, their annual Youth Conservation Camp. Our club will again fund a scholarship, in memorial of Al Sillonis, for one young person. If you are aware of someone who will be age 10-12 this August, who would likely benefit and enjoy this event, and needs the financial support, let someone on the board know.
Hope to see you all next week.
