The Newscaster from Month 2023
God rest you merry—ladies and gentlemen.
I can’t say I am on top of things, “circumstances” being as they are: but this I know, I like the Snake River canyon (images below). Also, the rainbows in the Weiser pond prefer Mike’s fly over my grey Byrd’s Nest.
Our Christmas party is still on: Tuesday the 12th at Idaho Pizza. Meet around 6:00pm, and the good folks will start providing food around 6:30. We will have our usual white elephant gift exchange—-so far no one has complained about last year’s rules, which are posted below.
Our fly tying confab on 19th will feature a steelhead pattern introduce to us a last month’s meeting, called “Bennett’s Halo”. A photo and information has been posted here.
See you next week, if you haven’t headed off for warmer climes already. Catch a fish for me—-and one for yourself.

White Elephant Gift Exchange
1. Each player brings one wrapped gift to contribute to a common pool
2. Players draw numbers to determine what order they will go in
3. The first player selects a gift from the pool, opens it, and shows it to the group.
4. The following players can choose to either pick an unwrapped gift from the pool or steal a previous player’s gift. Anyone who gets their gift stolen in this way can do the same either choose a new gift or steal from someone else.
5. To keep things moving along, there are a couple of limits on gift swapping/stealing:
a) A present can only be stolen once per turn, which means players who have a gift stolen from them have to wait to get it back.
b) After three swaps, the turn automatically comes to an end
6. After all players have had a turn, if the first player has not had their gift stolen and chance to swap the first gift, they may choose to steal/swap for any other opened gift. Anyone whose gift is stolen in this last round may steal from someone else.
There will not be a fly tying meeting in December. See what's scheduled for next month's fly tying session here
