The Newscaster is the monthly news letter for the Indianhead Fly Fishers. The current President's message will be here and the Newscaster archives will follow.
It’s April——no foolin’
I hope you all are having more fishing fun than I am, (really trying not to complain too much, here)—the local pond has started to clear a bit, but the fish are not at all attracted to whatever I have been throwing at them.
A pair of elegant appearing immigrants have taken up residence, but they are constantly harassed by the green-billed feral domestics —-the kingfishers have apparently been living high on the juvenile bass, and the muskrats are still perforating the banks. I am told by semi-reliable sources, that the smallmouth in Brownlee are staging at 20-30 foot depths off rocky points;, and by a more reliable source, the trout in Mann Creek Reservoir are eating fleas.
Looking ahead—Our monthly meeting for April is on the ninth—-tentative program plan is for our own Grant Baugh to fill us in on some south-of-the border fishing (Sea of Cortez?) Concurrently, we will hold an impromptu gear swap, so if you have some tackle or whatever that you no longer wish to keep, bring it and see if you can trade it off you something that you most desperately need. (If it is too big to easily fit on a table, just bring photos, okay?)—
The April 16th fly tying will be the original Carey Special here and we will again do a starter session at 6:00 pm, ahead of the featured fly at 7:00.
May will bring us to the “END OF YEAR “ meeting—-(hey, I didn’t make that up)—with the big raffle: I’m hearing bamboo rod, tenkara rod, lots of flys [flies?], and $$$$$. Not sure of the program yet—negotiations are in progress.
The 31st of May is set for the Weiser Community Pond clean up. The Idaho Free Fish Day is June 8th, so we will be looking for volunteers to man an outreach/informational booth at one or two locations. There are tentative plans of more outreach efforts later in the year, so we could sure use some help with those.
In the mean time, stay connected—-to lots of beautiful fish
