The Newscaster from June 2023
I sat down to read my latest issue of the Idaho Game Warden magazine . . . .
. . . and was pleased to find an article written by one of our own;
I’m of the opinion that we, of all folks, should celebrate the professional efforts of the officers who protect the resources we find so valuable. District Conservation Officer Mark Sands, and our local CO, Shane Lusk, are among that elite group, and should be recognized.
Oh, yeah—-you too can subscribe to the magazine on the ICOA website;
Last week, a bunch of us went to Mann Creek reservoir: I had fun and even caught some fish. Several of us did not receive the email pre-trip notification that Senor Gulu sent out: later investigation revealed that his messages had been designated “SPAM” by some anonymous person or program. So you maybe should check that out: my granddaughter showed me how to fix it.
Regarding ICOA, don’t forget to be alert for some 10-12 year old, who wants to attend their camp in early August, but needs financial assistance. The Al Sillonis Memorial Scholarship has yet to be designated: it is a time sensitive process so we need to get it done.
Contact Mark Sands or any board member it you identify a possible recipient.
Rambling on——the website also features the posters that Dick created, one specifically for the pond clean up, and another general informational recruiting handbill. He also did the fancy computer work to format to letter size, so we can post them in public spots, and to business card size. I would encourage us all to think posting places, and let the board if you want some of each: we can designate some $$$ to get them printed, then pass them out.
June and July planned activities are limited to an informal 7:00 pm meetings on the second Tuesdays, at Idaho Pizza—-no flying sessions currently planned unless someone has planned something of which I am unaware.
Yesterday, several club members joined with a lot of folks to take back the Weiser Community Pond, from the bondage of abundant vegetation (terrestrial and aquatic), produced by our wet spring. The city honcho said he counted around 55, from several sources, including the various city departments, Angel Heart, and others. Hot dogs and beverages were provided by IFF and the Elks lodge. If you take trip to the pond, you can compare the “before” photos he posted in the kiosk, with the end result.
