The Newscaster from October 2023
Greetings, and happy autumn.
You get to decide if that’s a sunrise or a sunset; but also, we, as members, need to decide if our club is sunsetting. That was the term a friend (in another state) used to describe the archery club, of which he had been a member for decades. He described a familiar dynamic: members “aging out”, minimal youth involvement, and changing cultural trends pushing folks toward isolation. So this is a blunt appeal; we need more members and more active involvement from present members. We have a great resource in this website. Let’s use it to full advantage; but more importantly, we need to be out in our communities, recruiting.
I am hearing of lots of things happening, but it’s all second hand. This last week, trips to Brundage and Oxbow reservoirs were planned: I have not heard any reports; maybe we will have them at the next meeting (Tuesday, the 10th, 7:00 pm at Idaho Pizza).
Mr. Gulu is planning trips to Unity reservoir later that week, and Malheur reservoir the follow week. Check the website activities section for dates and times.
We have fielded a couple of suggestions for meeting informational topics, we are tracking down the possible sources. We still need more ideas; if you stumble across a fishing related subject which interests you, let one of the board members in on the secret. Or better yet, partner with someone of shared experience, and develop a program for us all.
Remember, the fish don’t really care how tight your loops are, so keep casting!
